Techniques for Creating Effects and Images of Horror
One of the best aspects of "Terrifier" it's dedication to using practical effects. In a time when CGI is now the standard for filmmakers, Leone's preference to make use of practical effects harkens back to classic gore, but also imparts an uncanny, tangible feeling to the film's gore. The creative and disturbingly grisly killings are a testament to their creativity and the talent of their special effects crew, which is led by Leone himself who has a degree as a makeup artist in SFX makeup. From the brutal dismemberment and dismemberment of one character , (click blog post) to the bizarre facial mutilations of another "Terrifier" breaks the boundaries in the realm of screen violence and provides an extremely terrifying experience.
David Howard Thornton's Surreal Performance as Art the Clown

Thornton's physical acting is exemplary, demonstrating a mastery of facial expressions and body language which make Art's movements scary. The performance is further enhanced by his total absence of dialogue, forcing the actor to rely exclusively on his body and face to convey Art's bizarre intentions. This silence only enhances the character's terrifying presence and makes him one of the most terrifying horror movie villains of the 21st century.
The Film's Budget is Limited: A Protest to Creativity and Resourcefulness
Another thing that is impressive about "Terrifier" can be seen in its capacity to create a truly terrifying experience on a limited budget. The film was produced with a budget of $100,000, which is little less than what many horror films cost to produce. But despite this fact, Leone has managed to create an aesthetically stunning and deeply disturbing experience that stands toe-to-toe with several more costly horror films.
The filmmakers' ability to think outside the box is evident in the film's gritty, urban setting that conveys a sense of solitude and vulnerability. In addition, the budgetary constraints probably played a role in the decision to utilize practical effects which, as previously mentioned are only meant to enhance the overall impact of the film.
Critic Reception, and the Response of Fans
"Terrifier" is extremely well-received by reviewers and the general public, and has gained an avid following within the horror scene. Critics have praised the film because of its imaginative effects, and Thornton's shocking performance acting as Art the Clown, and the ability to deliver an incredibly terrifying experience with little budget. Filmgoers have embraced the film for its unapologetic brutality, shocking atmosphere and memorable antagonist.
Conclusion
Damien Leone's "Terrifier" is a shining example of what is accomplished with imagination, creativity, and a deep understanding of the elements that make horror truly frightening. With its horrifyingly practical effects as well as David Howard Thornton's disturbing portrayal of Art the Clown and its impressive performance on only a modest budget "Terrifier" will be in the top movies of horror in the 20th century.
